Ouch, I fell and hit my head
This one is just a personal project I did for myself. The last self-portrait drawing I made was almost a year ago now, so I wanted to do this as an exercise in value and my self-esteem.
I started by taking a real image of my face and breaking down the face into different regions, then using that as a guide to begin painting digitally over. I used a color palette ranging from dark reds to light pinks, and then set my iPad to display in greyscale so that I was painting in black and white the whole time. Once the face was done, I turned the greyscale display off, and my drawing so far became red and pink, very interesting looking.
The next step was to manually draw a spiderweb-like pattern over my face to gauge how I'd shatter it, originating on the left eye. I then manually cut each shard and moved them outwards to achieve the glass shattering effect. Ultimately I did this because I thought that it'd look neater than just a normal drawing of my face, and because I need more practice with illustrating realistic faces. I wasn't sure how much I liked the illustration pre-shatter.
I'm content with how this piece ended up, and I've since had a couple friends ask if they could commission me for similar pieces, so it sounds like other people liked it too!
