AQUAMARINE is a short platformer shooter developed in just 10 days for the Pixel Game Jam 2024. I developed it with the help of my programmer teammate Ryan Flynn, and our mutual friend Cody Miller helping us test it. It was my first ever game jam, and we ended up winning in the Beginner's Best category.
You play as the small but mighty Pistol Shrimp, on an adventure to reclaim your home from the Mantis King and his army of invaders. There are 3 stages to the game and a boss fight at the end, which we felt was an adequate amount of content for a game made in essentially just over a week.
This project really was an incredible learning experience. I hadn't worked on an actual game project start to finish in ages before this competition, so I ended up learning tons and seeing just how far I had come since way back in my high school days, working on projects like Action Fish.
This isn't the end for the AQUAMARINE project though. One of the prizesĀ for winning in this game jam was talking with the jam hosts to publish your submission, and we are most definitely pursuing this. As of writing this (July 15th), I've been in talks with SanForge Studios (the game jam hosts) for a few weeks now about this publishing deal and it does appear we will be pursuing this opportunity. We have a much fuller game experience planned, with all sorts of new features. Hope you're as excited as I am!
